Yesterday was my first official day in New York, but it was spent working at the Gap and unpacking the best that I could in a short amount of time. I arrived around 7am and was told I could check into my housing around 9am, but that wasn't the case. After waiting around an hour in the New Yorker Hotel lobby I finally got to check into my room and unpack. While it is New York and all and rent is high I was amazed at the room I got for the amount of money we spent. I wouldn't necessarily say in a good way! Put it this way the bed is like a rock, the shower doesn't drain... I mean come on standing in a foot of water while trying to shower is not fun! We put in a maintenance request, but it still isn't fixed... surprise surprise right!? One good thing is the location, because it's a half of a mile from my internship and work.
Speaking of work, today I went to the CondeNast building to start my internship and guess what!? Yea they failed to tell me that nobody was working today, because it's a holiday. Nice, but at least I got to enjoy the city. I did a little walking around and then came back to put on cooler clothes. The weather has been nice... I love the sunshine! I have been somewhat of a slacker today and trying to catch up on the rest I didn't get yesterday. The rest of the week should be eventful between work and the internship, so be sure to check back for more updates.
By the way the day working at the Gap wasn't too bad. It was just a lot more stuff to know and so many more people. No worries though, I will figure it out in the next week or so!
Lesson learned today: Better communication to save people the trouble of either having to sit in a lobby for an hour or showing up to work when there is none. Ha ha :-)
